Visible Hands’ 2022 Pacifico Master Beat Music Production School is training 81 artists, managers and cultural producers. We’re growing a critical mass of cutting-edge Afro-Colombian cultural leaders able to create, manage and position new sound and audiovisual narratives for our communities in the region, across Colombia and around the world.

Guided by national musical and cultural leaders of the highest levels, our top ten participants will record their demos and productions in one of the best music studios in the country - at the Pacífico Máster Camp in Cali, August 2022 - and we’ll help them create accompanying music videos.

Mis Raíces (My Roots)
is a celebration of our Africanity and diversity, from Tumaco on the Colombian Pacific coast. 



Somos Afro
(We Are Afro)
is a recognition of Afro-Colombianism as a symbol of equity in Colombia. They are from Tumaco, on the Colombian Pacific coast.



Visibles
is the celebration of 12 years of Visibles Hands, the largest ethnic leadership network in Colombia. From Quibdó, in the north of the Colombian Pacific coast.

 

Guided by national musical and cultural leaders of the highest levels, our top participants will record their demos and productions in one of the best music studios in the country - at the Pacífico Máster Camp in Cali in August 2022.

  • Through practical, hands-on sessions on basic musical foundations, tech for music production, new sound narratives and moving images and more, we’ll offer next level training to all participants.

  • We’ll move past music to executive and event production, cultural management, communication and more, inviting our students to round out their skills.

  • Through exploration of Afro-feminism, modern masculinity, creative writing, composition and more we’ll ask our creators to stretch and expand their views.

TINO HERRERA, DIRECTOR

Tino is a musician and music producer with more than 20 years of experience in the most important sounds and groups of the Colombian Pacific. He has worked with Guayacán Orquesta and the group Saboreo.

NIDIA GÓNGORA

Nidia is a traditional singer, composer and teacher, founder of Grupo Canalón de Timbiquí, community leader and one of the foremost artists of the Colombian Pacific. She a member of Pacifican Power and co-founder of the musical project Quantic and Nidia Góngora.

ALEXIS PLAY

Alexis is a music producer, composer and urban singer. This Choco artist has more than 20 years of experience, is a member of Pacifican Power and was part of Chocquibtown from its beginnings. Today he’s an independent artist, composer and producer of his own sounds and lyrics, a cultural leader and leader for the youth of the region.

CÉSAR HERRERA

César is a manager and tour producer with more than 10 years of experience. César has worked with important groups such as Herencia de Timbiquí, Kinteto Pacífico and Rancho Aparte. He is also founder, producer and manager of Pacifican Power, one of the most important groups in the region and a collective leadership project that brings together the talents of the Pacific with greater projection around its music.

HUGO CANDELARIO

Hugo is a singer, composer, arranger, music director, researcher and multi-instrumentalist of Pacific music. He’s also director of the Bahía Groupe, a national and international representative of the region music. Hugo has dedicated his musical career to the diffusion of the Colombian Pacific music. His work has focused mainly on research, creation, production and dissemination of the music of Colombia.

JEFFRY OBANDO

Jeffry is a musician, producer, composer and arranger with more than 10 years of musical experience representing the Pacific inside and outside the country. The master Obando was born in Guapi and is also a bassist, guitarist and pianist. Currently a member of Pacifican Power, he has collaborated with artists such as Luisito Carrión, Jaime Murrell, Grupo Bahía, Esteban Copete, Carlos Vives and more.

JUANCHO VALENCIA

Juancho is a director, composer and arranger with decades of experience. Nominated for five Grammy Awards and winner twice, Maestro Valencia is Director of Puerto Candelaria and has a master’s degree in composition. He is founder of Merlín Producciones and has worked with artists such as Maité Hontelé, Calle 13 and Chocquibtown, among others.

CRISTHIAN SALGADO

Cristhian is a musician, producer and engineer and founder of Bombo Records: a record label, producer and studio recording Pacific music and contemporary fusions with traditional rhythms and sounds of the region. Salgado was a member of Bahía Group and has produced music for artists such as Hendrix B., Choibá and Herencia de Timbiquí, among others.

ESTEBAN COPETE

Esteban is a composer, arranger, saxophonist and marimbero from Chocó. He is founder and director of the group Kinteto Pacífico, who’ve achieved national and international recognition for their important contributions and explorations on the traditional music of the Colombian Pacific.

ALFREDO VANÍN

Alfredo is a poet, novelist, storyteller, teacher, literary carver, journalist, essayist, cultural researcher, ethnologist and editor. He studied Literature and Anthropology and the University of Cauca, which awarded him the title Honoris Causa in Literature. Alfredo’s work inserts the jungle, the ancestors and other founding elements of the Black people’s worldview. It outlines his vision of the world and the order of relationship with things.

JESÚS ELÍAS CÓRDOBA

Jesus is an agronomist with studies in Social Services Management and Latin American Social Development.   He is former president of the Fundación Fiestas Franciscanas de Quibdó (Fiestas de Sanpacho). In 2011 he coordinated a presentation in Quibdó of African poets at the International Poetry Festival of Medellín «El espíritu del origen».  He’s an intermittent columnist and unrepentant music lover.

WIN PEREA

Win is a singer, music teacher with emphasis on instrumental performance (popular singing) and artist from Chocó. He’s been member of groups such as Guayacán Orquesta, Golpe de Amporá and Sol de Abril. He was also Coordinator of Culture of the municipality of Quibdó, manager of culture for Visible Hands and is currently responsible for the cultural area of the Bank of the Republic in his native Quibdó.

ANA MARÍA ARANGO

Ana Maria is Director of the documentation center Corp-Oraloteca-University of Chocó, where she won the Visible Anthropology Prize in 2014. She’s made several short films and documentaries such as Velo qué Bonito, Los Sonidos Invisibles and Unos zapatos para Cassinda. She’s an anthropologist from the University of the Andes with a master’s degree in social anthropology from the University of Barcelona.

LEONIDAS VALENCIA

Leonidas is a musical director and cultural manager, renowned musician, arranger and composer born in Quibdó. As director of La Contundencia and led groups such as Grupo Raza, Chirimía Tradicional, Bogasonbo, and Hinchao su Gente with which he has produced more than 17 albums. He is currently director of the Bachelor of Music and Dance at the Universidad Tecnológica del Chocó and president of ASINCH (Association for Cultural Research of the Chocó).

JHONNY HENDRIX

Johnny is producer and director of Antorcha Films. He has produced several well-known and award-winning films at festivals around the world such as "Perro come Perro" and "Doctor Alemán", "Deshora" and "Anina".  He is the director of "Chocó,” a film selected at the Berlin Film Festival and opening film at the 2012 Cartagena International Film Festival. In 2016, he premiered "Saudó" and in 2017 "Candelaria" winner of Best Director in Parallel Section of authors of the Venice Film Festival and Audience Award Latin Cinema 30ES Rencontres de Toulouse.

IVÁN BENAVIDES

Ivan is a musician, composer, producer and cultural manager with more than 30 years of experience. He’s led conceptual, artistic and cultural projects of great impact and national and international advocacy, articulating music with tradition. He’s worked with Carlos Vives, ChocQuibtown, the Orchestra Philharmonic of Bogota, Los Gaiteros de San Jacinto (all Grammy Award winners), Patrik Pulzinger and different artists in Europe, USA and Latin America.
