TUMACO + CALI

MANOS visibles had a BIG WEEK on the pacific coast, and in cali.
HERE ARE THE STORIES:

  • OUR TIME IN TUMACO

This year, our AfroInnova gathering kicked off with a small group visit to the Pearl of the Pacific: Tumaco. We were so warmly welcomed, and we learned so very much about a region that has no business being forgotten: it’s bursting with beauty, brilliance and pride.

  • AFROINNOVA IN CALI

Next, Manos Visibles brought 13 creative minds from across the African Diaspora to Cali for a week of connection, interaction, exchange and learning - with the backdrop of the greatest Afro Colombian music festival in the world: Petronio Alvarez.

  • PACIFICO MASTER BEAT CAMP + AWARDS

Last week, 61 participants from the very first music production school in the Colombian Pacific - Pacifico Master Beat - spent 6 days at ICESI University in Cali. We ended with an awards night of epic proportions to honor our brilliant young musicians and their teachers.

PLU CON PLA

“Plu con Pla sounds like a river and sounds like the streets, like all the exuberance of the Pacific. It sounds like this important encounter that is memory, ancestry and the new. And finally one understands that memory is what will remain in the future and not just where we come from.”
-
Maestro Fernando Bonilla

Plu con Pla was with us physically, emotionally and spiritually. From an intimate party in the Pantano de Vargas neighborhood of Tumaco to their outsized presence on stage at the Petronio Alvarez Festival and after parties, the band shared their powerful sounds of the Pacific Coast with AfroInnova.

With support from The Warner Music Group / Blavatnik Family Foundation - Social Justice Fund, Manos Visibles champions this supergroup and its infinite talent - from their participation in Pacifico Master Beat training to the creation of a short documentary (soon to be released) and high production value music videos:

The soundtrack to our days on the Pacific Coast and in Cali sprung forth, most often, from Tumaco.

“For a long time, Plu con Pla hadn’t released any songs. We didn’t have the right conditions or resources to do it, so the chance to produce music has always been so important to us. Developing a complete album was something that we’d hoped for. Thanks to WMG’s support, it’s now possible. And to record in a high quality setting with masters like Iván, Tino, and more - people not previously within our reach - this is such important step for us, to grow as artists and raise the bar for our music.  We had attracted an audience: but that audience was waiting for our advancement and growth. Now, that’s possible, and only with this support.”
- Harold Tenorio, Founder and Director, Plu con Pla.

And also with our support - and with training and guidance from Master Iván Benavides, a top Colombian music producer, and Tino Herrera Lewis, Pacífico Master Beat Director - Plu co Pla’s first full album, titled “Pura Actitud” (A Matter of Attitude), is set to be released this October.
